My granddaughters love to make these with me. They were both recently diagnoses with celiacs disease. I bought a new waffle iron and King Arthur’s GF flour. I made no other changes to the recipe (after carefully checking all labels on other ingredients) and they turned out fantastic as always!

Hi Karen! I think it would work, but you would likely need to make some adjustments to the recipe, without having done it personally I can’t say for sure how to do it. Let me know how it goes if you do try it. 🙂

Easily the best waffles ever! The amounts of each ingredient are perfected in this recipe. I’ve tried others and there was either not enough sugar or they weren’t crisp enough, etc. I have used this recipe so many times and forgot to write a review!!

I’m writing this as a warning for people who use powdered buttermilk, which is wonderfully convenient. I use Bob’s Red Mill because it doesn’t clump up like the one that comes in a cannister does. I measured the powder into the dry ingredients, but then forgot that I didn’t need 2 cups of water. It should be 2 Tbl less. Because of that, the batter was very runny, and so it didn’t develop any crust at all. The inside was squishy instead of fluffy, too. I will definitely try it again, and do it correctly, and then I’m sure I will give it 5 stars.

This is the best and only waffle recipe you need! Just made these this past weekend. Truly the best waffle recipe! Confession: the first time I tried this recipe, I did the lazy version (didn’t separate the yolks, didn’t whip the whites) just threw it all in a bowl mixed and baked. The second time, I took care to follow the directions and my mind was blown eating these fresh off the iron with melted butter and some syrup! It’s worth the “extra” steps! Additionally I leave out the 3T of sugar from the batter (because I pour syrup onto my waffles) and it doesn’t impact the recipe at all.

BEST waffle recipe I’ve ever made. Very flavorful. Only addition I made was adding a 1/2 tsp of McCormick’s Cake Batter extract along with the vanilla extract. I used the waffle as a base for strawberries and whipped cream.

I’m so glad you enjoyed them so much, Paola! I haven’t personally tried making these chocolate so I can’t say for sure how to do it. It would take some experimentation. If you do try it, I would love to know how it goes. 🙂

These are the best homemade waffles. They freeze and reheat very well too.
I am wondering if I can make these into chocolate waffles by substituting some flour with cocoa powder?

It’s so awesome that you are using so many of my recipes and enjoying them so much! If I let my kids eat these for breakfast every day they would not complain. These are a family favorite. 🙂

We have these almost every week. They are light and flavorful – a rare combination at breakfast. We make a couple of batches, break them up, and freeze them. Then we put them in the toaster 3 minutes on busy school mornings. Not as good as fresh but better than store-bought – and we know exactly what is in these. Don’t skip any steps. They are good!

We have a cheap waffle maker gifted to us a few years ago. My husband made on batch of waffles with it back then; it did not work as our expensive one that died years ago.
Today I had a desire for waffles plus using sourdough discard. I checked SSR recipes because I have had great luck with Sam’s recipes, but I found this waffle recipe with buttermilk, not discard. My thought was that they both add tang, so why not substitute?.
Here was my next challenge. When preparing the ingredients, I discovered a box of pancake/waffle mix in the back of my pantry that needed to be used up.
Being one who doesn’t like to waste, I compared the K mix ingredients to Sam’s. I added cornstarch, vanilla, milk, cinnamon and my discard to the box mix. Of course, I beat the egg whites as Sam instructed.
The waffles turned out great even with my less than stellar waffle maker and substitutions!
I definitely will be using your waffle recipe again, substituting sourdough discard for the buttermilk. Thanks for inspiring me!

It’s best that everything is at room temperature to help it combine more easily. 🙂
