Hi Linda! It does sound like you may be over-working the dough. Make sure you are measuring your flour properly too. If you watch this video, it should be helpful. Good luck! 🀞

Hi Marie! You can wrap them in plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag or container. Bake straight from frozen; they may need just a minute or two longer πŸ™‚

One of my favorite recipes to use with the children at my Montessori school! They can do it almost independently and the biscuits always turn out flaky and delicious! Five stars from my group of 3-6 year olds!

How would you recommend freezing the raw dough (for example, wrap in parchment paper, vacuum seal, etc)? Should it be thawed prior to using? Would cooking time be affected?

I cut ’em into rectangular units to avoid having to meddle with the leavin’s. They accept tasty gravy just the same.
Cheers!

I folded the butter into the dry ingredients via the kitchen aid mixer and followed the instructions. It came out perfect

I’m so sorry to hear this happened, Amy! You don’t need baking soda here, did you add it? Are you using a generic baking powder? Is there a chance the baking powder was expired?

Mine were great but after they cooled they had a really strong chemical taste? I wonder if it’s from my baking powder or soda? It was a terrible taste

Hi Elsa! Almond milk should be just fine, I’ve had a number of readers say they’ve used it successfully. I hope you and your husband both enjoy the biscuits!

My husband is dairy free so would almond milk work as a replacement? I know sometimes dairy alternatives can change the results and some recipes require a “creamier” alternative

I’ve been using this recipe for years to make my Sunday morning biscuits and gravy, which is my family’s absolute favorite breakfast! I double it to have enough biscuits for our large family and the amount of gravy I make. I also get pretty warm making breakfast, so sometimes I put the flour mixture (which is in a glass bowl) into the freezer for a bit before I add the frozen butter to make sure everything stays very cold while I’m patting it out with my warm hands. I also don’t like waste or fiddling with the dough too much, so after I’ve done my folds and turns, I pat it into a rectangle and just cut it into rectangular biscuits, sure the edge biscuits may rise unevenly, but my family doesn’t mind – if we’re having guests over I’ll trim the edges for an even rise, but the little rectangular biscuits have become my signature. πŸ˜…
