I never have milk in the house, we use almond milk for our cereal. I add a big tablespoon of sour cream to it to equal 1 cup and all of my recipes come out fine.

In reply to Joann Clarke. Hi Joann! I have not ever personally used the powdered buttermilk, but I believe they have instructions on the container as to how to mix it up. I would think it would work as a buttermilk substitute. :)

Hi Sam, I hope you’re able to reply to my comment. For buttermilk substitution, what about using Saco Pantry Cultured Buttermilk Blend? I would really like to use buttermilk but it’s such a waste for me to buy it just for one recipe. Please let me know your thoughts about this. Thank you.

I have used this recipe in vegan dishes with almond & oat milk and I found that the oat milk does better. But almond milk will work too. I would use only the plain unsweetened almond milk, as it won’t alter the taste of your recipe.
