This recipe comes the closest to what my Czech Grandfather use to make, that I have found. He would put a strudel twist on his by adding some coconut, pecans and sometimes raisins and bake in a shallow cast iron dutch oven, that was one thick pie.

I have used this receipt a quit a few times now and it has turned out pretty good and for me that’s good because I don’t really have much luck when it comes to baking or at least having it where can eat it so far so good knock on wood the two pies that I just put in the oven are still good ones and that I didn’t jinks myself lol 55 minutes and I get to get some sleep have been cooking since 1:00 this afternoon hope they enjoy Easter dinner it won’t be bad if only I wasn’t a amputee

I made this apple pie for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it! I quote, “it was perfect – don’t change a thing.” The crust is easy and delicious.

Hi! I will be trying this crust again! Can’t wait! It doesn’t say to specifically blind bake the bottom crust for an apple pie – I’m wondering should I do that for this apple pie? Or it looks like you usually recommend blind baking for other types of pies?

In reply to Gigi. Hi Gigi! I don't personally use a convection oven, but all of my recipes should be able to be adjusted for convection by reducing the temperature by 25 degrees F. :)

Hi Sam! Thank you for another great recipe! I have a convection oven and after reviewing several of your baking recipes, I don’t see any info on this topic. Traditionally the oven temp is decreased by 25 degrees when baking, dos this general rule apply to all your baked recipes? Thanks!!!

I took a risk because I made this when I hosted some friends over for dinner, and risky it was not! This was my very first attempt at making an apple pie, and I am so happy to report that it came out wonderfully! Next time, I’ll attempt to make your pie crust recipe so it’s truly homemade. I’ve made my way through a number of Sam’s recipes and they’ve instilled a massive amount of confidence in my cooking and baking. Yay!
