In reply to Karyn Agostino. Hi Karyn! I haven't personally done it without a sherry or wine. I think you could use chicken stock, but the flavor will change a bit and the soup may taste a bit "flatter". I hope you enjoy it! :)

Do you have a suggestion for a non alcohol sub for the sherry or wine?
Guess I could simply omit it & though it may not be as good as your recipe but still be very flavorful.

made this tonight.. all I had was canned crab and it still came out great. not too thin, not too thick.I added chives and bacon..flavor was great. can’t wait to make it again with fresh crab or lobster meat. thank you!

I was watching 50 States in 50 Days, and the couple had stopped in an East coast town (can’t remember where) and Cream of Crab Soup was the recommendation. It sounded good, so I googled a recipe, found this one and put the ingredients on my shopping list for the next day. The very next day, I wasn’t feeling well and decided I wanted soup. This recipe was so easy and quick to make, especially since I wasn’t feeling well.
It’s so creamy, so delicious, satisfying and filling! I followed the recipe exactly and I wouldn’t change a thing. I can just imagine this soup being extra special on a cold, rainy day! Over the years, I’ve used a lot of recipes I’ve found through Google, but I can confidently say, this is my favorite!

oh my gosh what a great soup. I made it for the first time and it came together so quickly. The only change I made was I used Pino Gregio because I didn’t have any Sherry. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.

this was a delicious recipe!!! my new go to for a quick and easy cream of crab recipe!!! thank you!!! ( of note: I did not have sherry but used a port wine I had on hand and it provided a nice rich flavor!!)
