In reply to Sherry Mullennix. Hi Sherry! I HIGHLY recommend the homemade crust. It's a really key part to these turnovers. That being said, you could use a store bought crust if you'd like, but definitely try out that homemade crust first. :)

I should have known these would be excellent! I was looking to make turnovers with a flaky crust, I was thinking Id just use frozen puff pastry, but after reading your crust recipe I thought it was worth a try. Many pie crust recipes that I’ve tried end up dense and tough, even brittle, so I was hesitant.

This crust was outstanding! Tender, flaky, easy to work with, forgiving when rerolled! I dont know if its the secret ingredient or what, but its my new fave!

I would be curious if you ever rework this recipe to know how much you got from 8 apples by weight. Maybe mine were just huge, but I’ve got enough left for another batch of turnovers plus, which is not a bad thing! I just always enjoy checking my measurements against yours.

Hey Sam! I have made these before and absolutely loved them!! That being said, I am wondering if I could substitute your easy pie crust for your sourdough pie crust? Do you think that would be okay?

In reply to Jess. Hi Jess! I haven't tried it. I think I would try to assemble them right before baking. There is a chance it could get soggy sitting in the refrigerator overnight. If you do try it I would love to know how it goes. :)

I plan to make these for a brunch, would I be able to prepare all of the turnovers the night before and just bring to room temp before putting in the oven for the desired time?

I made your apple pie recipe for thanksgiving and it was so good!
