So bummed to hear this, Linda! From what you describe, I wonder if perhaps they could’ve been cooked a tad too long? Anise cookies (most cookies, honestly, but especially these) that are over-baked, even by a minute or two, could be dry and tasteless. If you were to try them again I would try reducing the baking time by a few minutes and seeing how they turn out, they are supposed to have a nice melt-in-your-mouth texture. I hope this is helpful and thank you for trying my recipe, I’m sorry to hear this one wasn’t a hit for you this time!

I really like these and want to make them again soon. I made five different cookies this year I think this is my personal favorite. I used diluted anisette liquor I had on hand instead of flavoring.

Hi Cindy! I haven’t personally tried it, but I think it could work. You may need to use a bit more than 2 teaspoons of anise seed but I can’t say for sure without having tried it. πŸ™‚

Anise cookies have been my favorite since childhood!! I don’t normally buy or make them because I’m the only one who loves licorice and I’d eat them all in due time! HOWEVER every recipe I’ve used has been top notch so I made these and I must say they are excellent! I did add an extra tsp of anise oil for my taste. they were so quick and easy to make!!! thanks for another top notch recipe!!!

Hi Colleen! These cookies are hearty, not chewy, almost biscuit like in texture. πŸ™‚

Whoops! I’ve definitely had that happen before. Frustrating, but if it’s the right extract my drawer smells good for quite a while. 🀣

So, I need to get some so that I can make these.

Hi Antranette! I recommend the amount listed, but you can absolutely use less, that would just be according to your preference and how much you like anise.

Hi Nicolette! I would scoop the dough balls first and then freeze, I have instructions on how to do so on my post on how to freeze cookie dough. I hope that helps!
